With the integrating of 3D print ,MAC(Macau Anglican college)offers courses on underwater robots and biped robots, which have received many awards. Teacher Xu says: After studying 3D print lessons, students change great, they are more willing to explore the outside world and start out attempts.


Free education may encourage creative thinking from students.

Participating in robot group held by school,design and make underwater robot with group members on students’own,finally receiving a prize in an international match held in the USA.

There are 8 Creator, 32 Finder, 1 Dreamer, 2 Guider II  FlashForge equipments in the Engineering Training Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

The school has set up a daily or half-day 3D print training course for all majors.The course is based on FDM printing theory and technology, also the modeling design and print if possible. The school also offers a 3D-print public elective course (32 class hours)for all majors.The first part of the course is about 3D modeling knowledge, combined with actual printing projects, enable students to understand knowledge on modeling and print in project driven mode. The latter part of the course is mainly on students’ creative works and independent production.

Q:What kind of advantage does 3D print offer to teaching ?

A:3D print increases the DIY opportunities for students to work by his own hand.3D print digital manufacture improves the quality of production comparing to traditional manual producing.3D print also reduces the cost and technical barriers comparing to the modern CNC high-accuracy machining,especially for many modern manufacture equipment, whose price and requirements with skills & mechanical knowledge are very high.

Considering equipments and personnel safety, 3D print is more suitable for students to conduct open activities as it is high in security, students with basic skills can print their own products without teachers guiding on side. Students have more space to create.


Q:What changes happen to students after their learning on 3D print courses?

A:3D print extends the field of traditional engineering graphics, which mainly teach about conventional drafting exercises and drafting of composite parts or assembly parts such as (reduction gearbox, gearbox).

Now, our teachers are trying to add a 3D print mechanical assembly job as a conclusion for the course at the end of the course .So the students’ drafting knowledge will be tested, on the other hand, 3D modeling is combined with actual manufacturing,students’ understanding of engineering will be reviewed too.

Q:what is your opinion on the 3D print applied to teaching and future education ?

A:I think that the future of 3D print is in educational field.The demand in educational industry is great. With the popularity of 3D printing equipment, high-quality 3D print courses and educational training will be in urgent need too.



Xin’an County Xin Cheng Experimental Primary School

Xincheng experimental primary school has just set up 3D print course, which is arranged as a two class-hour interest course on Friday afternoon. Teacher Jia says that the biggest advantage of 3D printing is to stimulate students’ desire to explore 3D technology, and to improve children’s spatial imagination.

Q:What is your opinion on the 3D print applied to teaching and future education?

A: Describing and explaining three-dimensional figures to students is difficult in teaching, teachers may have to prepare a lot and try very hard in class,although still very hard for children to understand and make a deep and specific impression,making the teaching efficiency very limited. With 3D printing, we can make abstract things vivid and visualized, improve the three-dimensional spatial thoughts of students. 3D printers can change children’s imagined objects into real life things.

Our school has a 3D print classroom and 10 sets of 3D printers for teaching. The hardware facilities are OK now, but teachers are not very skilled in modeling and need further trainings.

Wuzhou No.2 Middle School has now opened up a Makers’training room for middle school students, including modeling, reverse engineering and other 3D print related courses. Teacher Chen believes that 3D print courses have opened up students’visions, making students’creativity with new things much more realistic.

A:Students are more willing to explore and dig new things, and more curious about unknown things.

A: In science and other courses,3D print can print out models very visually,so the teaching will be clearer and easier.3D print also accord with the trend of future education and the current steam education.

Renaissance College is a private school based in Ma’anshan,Hong Kong.The school is consist of primary department and middle department,its  primary department has purchased FlashForge 3D printers and offered 3D printing lessons for students.

Q:Which kinds of lessons/activities does the school offer to students on 3D printing?

A:There is a big movement in education referred to as “The Maker Movement” or “Makers Ed”. Our use of 3D print in the primary school is closed linked to this. Right now we are teaching the basic skills in drawing in 3D but our hope is to have the students printing something useful/meaningful prototypes.

Q:What advantages does 3D print bring to teaching ?

A:The main benefits we can see are,

1.having the student think in 3D when drawing

2.allowing the students to create, design and hold something at the end of a design cycle

3.incorporating the concept of measurement. Massively important with .

Q:What is your opinion on the 3D print applied to teaching and future education?

A:I think that homes will have a 3D printer in the same way that homes have a 2D printer right now.
